| Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church |
In 1939, a church was born in the 4th Ward section of Houston, Texas at 804 House St. This church began with the Rev. Thomas James Compton as pastor and six members. In 1989, we celebrated 50 years of service to the Lord, our community and our families on Kenton Street. In April 1990, following the death of our founder and leader Rev. T.J. Compton, the “Torch was Passed” to his son and our present pastor, Rev. Samuel Compton Sr. In 1995, the Lord laid a vision on Pastor Compton, Mt. Canaan must be up front, because leaders cannot lead from behind. With the visionary plans that had been set for this great Church, land was purchased on the main street of the Settegast community at North Wayside and Dockal. History was being made as a one million dollar edifice was erected with the principle of open doors and open arms to help the lost souls of this world and find peace and tranquility in the arms of our Heavenly Father and His promise of eternal life. God has truly smiled on Mt. Canaan, having grown from a meager beginning of six members to a membership of over one thousand. The members of Mt Canaan Missionary Baptist Church are comprised of members who are committed to an ongoing vision of progress. We invite you to come and worship with us during any of our services listed in this site. |
