Our Pastor
OUR PASTOR    Reverend Samuel Compton Sr.

pastor

As pastoral minister of the Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Compton has a vision to commitment and responsibility to those residents of the Settegast and surrounding communities.

He was born August 9, 1946 in Houston, Texas. His parents were the late Dr. T.J. Compton and Dr. Esther Jacques Compton. He is married to Ruthie Mae Small-Compton and they have four lovely children. He received Christ very early in life and was licensed and ordained to the gospel ministry by his father and the church in which he now serves as Pastor.

Reverend Compton is a graduate of the historical B.C. Elmore High School, where “the seed of community need” was first planted. He continued on to obtain his L.L.D., B.A., M.A. degrees at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Inter Baptist Theological Seminary.

Top priorities include his involvement in the Northeast Houston Community Development, of which he serves as president, board member of the northeast Beyond 2000, president of the Northeast Ministerial Council, board member of the Mayor’s Ministerial Advisory Board, and Vice Chairman of the Foreign Mission Board of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America. In his vision, he takes a “back to the future” look at promoting economic empowerment to the Settegast area.

His desire to see our children avoid some of the negative influences that exist in the inner city and increase their chances of success is what promoted Reverend Compton to organize the Dr. Esther Compton Community Development Center and the Northeast Organization of Executives and Professionals of which he serves as Executive Director.

The Dr. Esther Compton CDC is currently building Affordable Homes in the Settegast area. In addition to this, ECCDC is in the beginning stages of constructing a one-hundred fifty unit Senior Independent Living Facility in Northeast Houston.

Not only has he found time to commit himself to the working in the community, but with his first beginning as Pastor of Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Old Washington, Texas for three years and Corresponding Secretary of the Baptist Ministers Association of Houston and vicinity and carrying on the torch of Mt. Canaan since1990, he also fulfills his divine mandate to work for the Lord.
